Murchison of Athens, who had raised a cavalry company for Confederate service during the Civil War. Today Murchison remains a compact, close-knit place centered on its independent school district and its churches. The town sits at the junction of Farm roads 1616 and 773, with residential streets radiating a short distance from the school and a small cluster of businesses.
