By the mid-1880s it supported roughly 150 residents, three general stores, two churches, a school, and a gristmill, and it continued to grow through the 1890s, when some estimates placed its population near 700. A bank opened in 1901 and received a national charter in 1915. In 1928, Eddy's schools consolidated with those of neighboring Bruceville, the first such school merger in McLennan County, foreshadowing the eventual combination of the two communities into the single city of Bruceville-Eddy that exists today. That school consolidation endures in the form of the Bruceville-Eddy Independent School District, which serves the city and the surrounding countryside and remains a central civic institution. Eddy retains its own identity and its own ZIP code, 76524, within the combined municipality, while Bruceville uses a separate code.
