Rural Bastrop County Community

Apartments in Rosanky, TX

Welcome to Rosanky, a small rural community in southern Bastrop County set along Farm Road 535 between Bastrop and Smithville.

Rosanky is a small census-designated place in southern Bastrop County, Texas, located on Farm Road 535 about eleven miles south of the county seat of Bastrop and a short drive northwest of Smithville. The community takes its name from Ed Rosanky, a member of a pioneer Prussian family that settled the area in 1854. Before that, the loosely organized settlement was known as Snake Prairie, with a school established in 1868 and a post office following in 1871. The arrival of the railroad in the early 1890s gave the community a firmer footing, and Ed Rosanky donated land for development as the stop grew. Today Rosanky remains a distinctly rural place defined by ranchland, open acreage, and scattered single-family homesites rather than dense neighborhoods. Its location in southern Bastrop County places it within reach of Bastrop to the north and Smithville to the southeast, both of which provide the shops, services, and employment that a small unincorporated community does not sustain on its own. The area has drawn residents seeking space and quiet while staying connected to the larger communities along the Highway 71 corridor. The 2020 census counted about 1,470 residents, and the community retains its own post office with the ZIP code 78953. Much of daily life revolves around the Rosanky Community Center and local churches and schools, while the surrounding countryside offers the pastoral character that defines this corner of the Texas Post Oak Savannah. Rosanky suits buyers who prioritize acreage, privacy, and a slower pace within commuting distance of Bastrop, Smithville, and the greater Austin region to the west.
